Over the last several weeks, we have seen a record number of catastrophic events ravaging our coasts, and impacting our members, both alumnae and collegians. Hurricanes Harvey and Irma have had record-breaking, widespread flooding and damage, of which the full impact may not be known for weeks or even months. Hurricane Jose is now looming in the Atlantic, with a projected path towards the east coast in the coming week. In light of these recent and upcoming events, the Sigma Kappa Foundation has created a dedicated giving page for those wanting to donate to the Sister to Sister Disaster Recovery Fund. This fund is used to provide assistance directly to those who have been affected.
The Sister to Sister Disaster Recovery Fund assists alumnae and collegiate members of Sigma Kappa who find themselves in financial distress due to the occurrence of a U.S. presidentially-declared major disaster or emergency. Grant applications for the Sister to Sister Disaster Recovery Fund can be accepted for up to six months following the U.S. presidential-declaration. This grant is funded by member donations and contributions are accepted at any time.
In response to the back-to-back hurricanes that ravaged the Gulf Coast in late summer 2005, the Sigma Kappa Foundation established the Sister to Sister Disaster Recovery Fund. The fund provided a means for helping hurricane victims as well as setting a framework through which to assist future disaster victims.
