Sigma Kappa Sorority

New Chapter Support

recruit group

Sigma Kappa is proud of our quality colonization programs. Our primary goal is to compliment an institution’s Greek community by creating a competitive chapter that will continue to be successful. Sigma Kappa invests a great deal of time, money, and talent into each colonization to ensure a colony is successful. In order to support the colony, Sigma Kappa has designed a multi-faceted support structure for our newest chapters. At a minimum, we provided the following:

  • A colony consultant is based on campus for at least one year.
  • A local advisory board and corporation board (for chapters with housing) or property committee (for chapters without housing) are established and trained.
  • A volunteer and staff infrastructure specifically designed and trained to support our colonies and new chapters.

Advisory Board

The key to strong collegiate chapters lies in the local supervision of dedicated alumnae who are willing to work with members and officers.

The function of the advisory board is to guide and advise chapter officers in the day-to-day management of chapter programs and membership development. Each advisor works with a specific officer or chairman to guide her in planning, organizing, and problem solving.

Alumnae are invited to serve on the advisory board by collegiate chapters with the approval of the collegiate province officer. The requirements to serve as an advisor are: be a Sigma Kappa in good standing, be a current member of a Sigma Kappa alumnae chapter or club, be out of college for at least two years, and be able to meet with the advisory board and her advisee(s) on a regular basis. Advisors are trained through the Advisor's Academy, a national training program.

It is a great service to Sigma Kappa to volunteer time as an advisor, and most advisors find that they gain much more than they can ever give to Sigma Kappa.

Corporation Board/Property Committee

An organized property committee is an important component of a successful chapter. The property committee is formed for the purpose of furnishing and maintaining the property, building, suite, or room which serves as a collegiate chapter's meeting and/or recruitment site. The property committee is also responsible for assuring that all funds are managed properly and that all rent, insurance, maintenance issues, and all matters relating to the property are taken care of in a timely manner
