Sigma Kappa Sorority

NPC Extension Procedures

promo bannerSigma Kappa is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), which is the umbrella organization for 26 women's inter/national sororities. As a member, we support the NPC Unanimous Agreements regarding extension. It is unethical for an NPC fraternity (sorority) to establish a chapter on a campus without approval of the proper authority. Proper authority in most cases is the local college Panhellenic council. On campuses without a college Panhellenic, the administration is the proper authority.

This means if an individual or local sorority is interested in Sigma Kappa, we will first refer them to their local college Panhellenic council and/or Greek/sorority advisor. We want to ensure the proper extension procedures are followed on each campus.

What is Extension & Colonization?

Extension is the addition of National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) chapters to the Panhellenic system at a college or university, or the establishment of a sorority system on a campus where previously none had existed.

Colonization is the method by which a new chapter is established on a campus.

Re-colonization is the re-establishment of a chapter on a campus where the original chapter went dormant.

The extension committee of NPC will assist any campus wishing to add an NPC sorority chapter or establish a Panhellenic system. The extension committee will also assist a local sorority wishing to affiliate with Sigma Kappa or any other NPC sorority.
